money doing this?
I am not the highest here by any means but I am far from that cheap. I just find it really strange, I have to make enough to pay child care, pay bills, gas etc... and would like to have some left over for fun. I just don't get it

The wedding special on the site expired June 1st, 2008.

Could be a student, hobbyist or someone in desperate need of money.

Sounds like an "enhancement" to TFCD.

Look at the website. This is obviously someone who doesn't have a portfolio and is trying to build one.
This is not your competition. People who would consider this outfit to do their wedding, portrait, etc. are not people you want to deal with.

Keep your standards and your prices in line with your talent and experience.
NEVER price your services by what YOU can afford !!!

I was once told to get my Mercedes Benz repaired by a certain mechanic because he "had a whole bunch of Mercedes parked around his garage". I figured I'd better find a mechanic who actually fixed Mercedes, and didn't have them piled up around his garage. You usually get what you pay for. Would you go to a Doctor who advertised on Cragislist ?

They probably aren't making money at it.. and don't realize it. They aren't counting the cost of their equipment, clothes, etc.. counting those hard items as no cost. It may be someone who has a second (primary?) job and that job pays for things like the camera, so the photography business side of it is essentially "given" anything it needs since it is supplemented by that second job. They also probably don't have other expenses like insurance or health care costs because they either don't care or have it provided for "free" again (paid for by another job)...

At the moment, they still enjoy photography enough that they don't mind being up until midnight editing photos and burning cds.

As I've said before.. you can't worry about these guys. They are not your competition and you are better off putting all that energy you're using fretting and complaining into your own business. Time, karma, and taxes will eventually take care of them.

Heh.. Tom beat me to it... but he's right... they are not your competition. You don't want people coming to you because of your price... you want them coming to you because they like your work and want you to do that for them.

And never price your services by what YOU can afford. (It bore repeating.)

Thanks All.
Brad I know what you mean. I just jumped on to "see" what was there while listening to dr phil lol. I shouldn't have done it.
I haven't advertised on there at all and am getting lots of calls and several bookings weekly without Craigslist lol. The ones I don't book want craigslist prices lol.
Thanks again. I just couldn't believe the prices, with those prints and shipping and nothing for time gas, equipment use etc... I would make maybe 50 bucks so not worth it lol.

"Taking photos" lol. I got my first camera when I was 8 years old. So can I say I've been taking photos for 20 years on my site?
