Weird Google Ads????? - 10-10-2008, 07:00 PM

So what the heck is up with users of Google Ads (such as this forum, my forum, and others) where they are spamming completely unrelated advertising content? I've never seen this behavior up until about a week ago. I esp. dislike the Wal-Mart ad.

I haven't noticed any unusual ads in rotation on TPF.

This forum doesn't use google ads... if you're seeing them, you may have adware on your computer.

Hummm....good point...so if I see a walmart add where my google ads are on my site and I see the same walmart add in this forum top right, then it's just my client? I only use google ads.

The only ad banners in the top right are sponsors that pay for placement to TPF... they are not served up by Google.

we dont have any outside advertising clients running with our forum. everything is managed by us and hosted by us.

so if youre seeing something popping up when viewing our site then its some sort of adware you have on your machine..

oh gosh...it's killing me...I'm praying for that wal-mart ad to come back...it's not a pop-up or overlay of your current ads...it's literally the same ad placement where your ads are at the top right...it's not a separate window...and this cheesy voice plays saying you just won a $1000 GC...so it must be on my end...but what's crazy is they are hacking the ad channels somehow. I'll get a screen shot if I see it again.

Here...I've collected a few from this site over the past few days...are you an affiliate for these ads?

Very weird...I see the same ads on other sites too.

OMG! Those are funny! I'm sorry that you're dealing with this, but I love the fruit ad. That kills me.

Other than the usual photo related ads, I never see anything like the above here...Ben

It's killing me...I'm searching things such as hijacked adds etc. but coming up empty. I can say with certain that it's my local IE 7 client because it doesn't happen with my FF client nor any other browser on a different computer. I must have some sort of virus or maleware oh well.

Look online for a program called "Spybot Search and Destroy" and run it... I'll bet it finds a few things.
