It is an amazing copy of a photograph. Isn't it a few years old though?

The author lost me when he said that photography cannot be art.
I strongly disagree!
Good photography shows vision, insight, passion, as well as talent for composition, lighting, etc.

Certainly impressive. I do wonder about how beneficial it is from a time standpoint since I'm guessing a photo would not take almost 80 hours to produce.

I would have to agree with Donna.
A quote from the self-professed artist:
"Art is the selective re-creation or conversion of reality by the human mind into concrete imagery according to an artist's metaphysical value judgments. Real or imagined concepts are filtered and altered through the human mind to the artist's hand to create an image or sound that did not exist before. The reason photography does not qualify as art is that the process removes the filter of the human mind as an interpretative element. Although photography requires technical skill, in the final analysis it is only a mechanical recording of reality."
All this says to me is that this person knows nothing about photography. Has he ever seen a zoom blur, artful use of DOF, application of filters to alter colors, etc, etc... Oh well, he has done a beautiful job of copying a photograph.

Patti

Who ever wrote that was living in a pre-Gallery 291 world.

Dude...I don't know, I wouldn't waste time putting all those pores in nor the lip wrinkles.
Once you go too far into realism there is no sense in putting such detail into a piece but thats just me. If it is real really nice job because airbrush is definitely a skilled form of art.

It shows me that my art of photography is real and true. I can duplicate his art, albeit in a little less than 80 hrs.

Burt Monroy spends weeks and weeks making something look like a photo. He does a magnificent job.
If it is of a real thing, make the photo. When someone spends that much time making something look like a photo, isn't that "the sincerest form of flattery?" | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
