har har har...

well luckily I'm not from Tyler...I'm a plant. A transplant, I mean! I am not working in espionage with a photography cover. Would be a very bad cover anyhow!

I moved here after I had my professional burnout from working in Africa...I came back to the states, spent 3 months in a cabin somewhere in Colorado and then once spring thaw hit...went to Dallas! Too much concrete, traffic, etc. for me so I headed east...and landed here!

Sometimes a change will do you good...and a good soundtrack!

I have found that whatever is best for us isn't really the easiest thing...and its generally never well received! I have finally given up on trying to explain myself to everyone with the hopes that they might somehow "understand"...they won't...but they will be able to see what brings me joy and what brings me down, and should be able to support me accordingly.
Even recently I've been dealing with some personal drama that isn't what I want ...but it is exactly what I need. When life starts getting out of whack...those two separate. You know all is well when what you want IS what you need and v/vs.

Sounds like your wife is dealing with a similar situation, ya know? You say it wasn't well received but WAS received...what more can you ask for??!?
Weekends off with the menfolk can either be cathartic or catastrophic...but it should actually be good to get away without the camera! And I totally understand about trips without the wife...I'm not married but I have dogs, BIG ones that require a lot of time and energy. So when I want to go shoot out in the woods does it mean that one of them gets to come with for a hike? Heck no...I take them on walks without the camera and they get plenty of mommy time!! Don't feel bad for taking time for yourself. It will probably do more to save your marriage than kill it! Well...depending on what your choices are during that 'your' time...

peace
B

BTDT, still suffer from it, mostly because work is burning me out to the point where I come home and all I want to do is be a veg. 5 more years to retirement. No good answers here, but take a trip with the wife, and just the wife, do something out of the ordinary, it helps a little. And take just one camera and one lens.

Last time I was burned out I went on a trip to Italy for 3 weeks. that seemed to help but I need something to try before next sept.

Hey Cap'n Tom, I resemble that remark? I'm not a photography nut but I can be fun to hang out with ... maybe not as much fun as hangin' out with my wife and a bunch of models in the V.I. but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!!

ADirty1, sounds like life is sucking the life out of you right now but didn't I just read elsewhere on the forum of you helping someone out with the Firefighter shots. Maybe one answer would be to find a way to use your photography to help out others. People who get unexpected things are way more appreciative and way less critical than photography nuts and their positive feedback might give you the boost you need.

I do donate to auctions to help raise money. It's always great to give something back and it's also fun to see what the images sell for.

The man date was good. Lot's talking BS and even more after the drinking. Nothing was better than being able to lay down and take a nap alone with out worrying about a thing. Now it's time to get back to the real world and start working a couple new personal projects that if all go right should last out through next year. Hopefully even longer.
