So what do you all do when you get burned out. Normally I look for a muse of a model that I get infatuated with but really can't do that now that I am married.

Last time I was burned out I went on a trip to Italy for 3 weeks. that seemed to help but I need something to try before next sept.

Take up a new hobby. Sometimes this will let you put the camera down, other times it will give you a new reason to pick it up.

1. I write a couple of songs
2. Get burned out on mastering/mixing
3. Pick up the camera.

Not feeling like I have to drag a camera with me everywhere I go seems to help.

Put the camera down for a month or so, close the computer for the same time, enjoy your family through the holidays and come back in the Spring.

Oh, you mean burned out with photography? Heck, I've recently got burned out with my repetitive daily routine...

Wake up, go to work, come home from work, help son with homw work, eat dinner, spend what seems to be a very little about of time with my lovely woman, then go to bed. Wash rinse and repeat. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot to be thankful for. I have a job, I have good health, I have a loving family, but in times like these I can't just "go away and try something new"...

Sorry... what do I do when I'm burned out on photography? Put the gear in plain site so every day I don't use it I see all the money I spent on the hobby sitting there staring at me, telling me that the equipment is too valuable to be collecting dust.

Hrmmm, You may be on to something.. LOL

Actually, I switched to 2nd shooting ONLY when it comes to weddings starting last month. I basically just like to keep trying something different. I am now more actively shooting pro sports and intend to do some nature photography eventually. I rented studio space to do some work there as well. I am pretty much all over the place.

I am not burned out, but my family is getting a bit perturbed with me on occasion.

Ditto. First time, about 20 years ago, I had a 10 year burnout. I just had had it. However, we missed the money, plus, it made a lot of our clients mad. Really mad.

So, after a year layoff, I resumed. That was enough time to catch a breather, and I was happy for a longer stretch.

I had been in the quit mode again, for several years, but my wife, who was my assistant at weddings, wasn't ready. Finally, one day during a down time at a reception, she said, "Stick a fork in me, I'm done." I thought she was ready to leave, which I guess she was. "No, it's time. No more weddings. We'll just run out the calendar and go back to a life."

Hallelujah!

I can see how shooting weddings all the time can eat up one's weekends. That's one reservation I have about launching into that territory. I love my weekends.
