I have one online, one nice zip shut 11x14 book, 2 other 11x14s, and 4x6 versions of the 11x14s. I only update the 11x14s when there is a sale on prints.

*I should add my online one is only in chronological order, while my books are more sorted by subject.

I think its an injustice NOT to have a printed portfolio. Selling is so tactile, and being able to see and touch the products makes them even easier to sell. I have a sampling online, then printed portfolio in pricey leather albums, large framed & matted prints (30x40) hung on the walls, some large and small canvases, as well as sample coffee table albums of my work.

I would say, when you walk into our store, you can see, touch, and smell (leather smells nice) the photography you'll be purchasing. I'm sure your Momma told you its whats on the inside that counts, but in this business, not so much. Appearance is everything. PRINT STUFF!

Thanks! Thats what I have been doing...been using a big scrapbook to put my prints in, not sure what else to use and wasn't sure whether I was just wasting ink with all the technology these days.

Show it big and sell it big.

Absolutely, keep a printed portfolio.

And big prints for display.

Big prints in the portfolio.

Show it big and sell it big.

Use stuff that is what the demographic you are aiming at would want in their home. If you like scrapbooking, and choose those types of presentations, its a different client base than those that are like - oh, is that leather! I also use an image box. Its an easy way to display prints - you can change them easy and its different. Not a lot of people use them. It has the quality feel of a heavy album, but its has some novelty to it.

What ever you decide, do it on purpose and make sure it speaks to your target demo.

I have an 11x14 portfolio, and I'm slowly acquiring large prints (up to 24x36) in various mounts (standout, gatorboard, canvas, gallerywrap and watercolor giclée.)

If you don't go with fancy leather (which is good if you can find it), check a photo or art store for big, professional looking ones. I'm updating my printed portfolio now with a few holiday items.

IMHO the best portfolio books come from Brewer Cantelmo. An acceptable alternative that is a little cheaper is House of Portfolios in New York.

I have the HOP wax vinyl 11x14 version with the polyester sheets. It has held up very well for over three years now. YMMV.

Brad - tell it like it is. Bigger is better. It will make them want it too.

Well, I do have one 11x14 hanging on my wall in the studio.. back in the corner.. so I can point at it from across the room and say "Can you see what that image is from here? Neither can anyone else. You want that one," and point to the 24x36 canvas.
