I agree with Andrew (which I hate doing!) and say that the PS3 is the way to go. It has been rated as one of the best blu-ray players out there AND you get a game system with it! The down side I find to it is I'm not a huge fan of the remote you have to buy (don't like the layout).

Yep, PS3 is still the way to go for a blu-ray player. There are some pretty fun games out on it too.

Also, you can use the PS3 to connect to media servers in your house and stream it to your TV (DIVX, MP3s, JPGs, etc...) Cool functionality... My 2 NAS servers have media services built in as does my PVR with Tversity...
I sometimes stream my edited photos wirelessly from my upstairs editing machine to my living room and display it on a 46" 1080P LCD for proofing via the slideshow functionality.
Works well.

As they said, PS3. Mine has been kicking butt for over a year now. I probably have close to 70 Blu-Ray discs and 7 games with 3 more on the way.

I bought my PS3 for the sole purpose of the Blu-ray player. The game console was a bonus but I only have 2 games I think.

Check out the online demos from the PS Store. Man.. since I rarely play a game all that often (sans COD4), the free demos (tons of them) are enough to keep me satisfied...
BTW: Has anyone tried out the Sony on demand video service via the PS3?

I've been debating on what to spend my Amex points on and have been trying to decide between Apple TV and the PS3 80GB bundle and after reading this thread I ordered the PS3. I don't play games, but I've heard several times it's the best Blu-Ray player for the money and if I ever feel like playing a game, it's there. I should have it next week and all for free - good deal.

Some others you cannot update their firmware or must burn to a DVD and then insert into the machine etc.
PS3 is and will remain the best bang for the buck BR player for quite some time.

BTW: Has anyone tried out the Sony on demand video service via the PS3? | The online stuff is great! I have tried pretty much every demo available and still have tons of video clips downloaded. As for the video sevice, I haven't tried it but most who have say it is okay but not great. I'd say we are spoiled by blu-ray quality, so anything less hardly seems worth it.

PS3 for sure.
I'm not crazy about the blue tooth remote. You can't program a universal remote for the PS3 because there's no IR port on it.
You can get a 3rd part USB dongle to allow that though if you really wanted.
Like Andrew, I love downloading demos and whatnot with it.
I only own 1 game for it. I got it for blue ray.

We got our PS3 for blu-ray and it's great. We don't have a seperate remote though, we just use the normal game controller remote. It's wierd but it works.

Maybe I got the wrong idea, but it sounded like other people are using specific movie-style remotes, I assume with play/pause/etc on them? I've not seen one but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
We use our game controllers wirelessly, for sure! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
