Psycho and The Birds by Hitchcock
Repulsion and The Tenant by Polanski
Nosferatu by FW Murnau and its remake by Werner Herzog
Aguirre Wrath of God also by Herzog
Hell, Carrie is scarier than a bunch of the things on this list, and it pretty much sucks.

Um, where's "Cujo" and "Night of the Hunter"?'
Oh, and "Idiocracy" is pretty scary too.

The Exorcist is my all times favorite. I never got scared by any movies. I love horror. My first horror movie when I was 5 years old (yup no kidding), my dad took me to theater to see The Exorcist and when I was three, watching.....i noticed some people screamed and ran out of the movie. It was pretty funny. Of course my mom got mad at my dad that I watched that movie at my age. Ever since then I just love watching horror movie. I love all Saw series! :D Also, I am HUGE fan of Stephen King books! He rulz!!

Not sure if you would class this one as "scary" or just over the top suspense, but I remember the original "Hitcher" as being one of the most soul draining suspense movies that I have ever seen. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Rutger Hauer and C Thomas Howell had such an amazingly perverse relationship in that movie.
