My first grade daughter came home with the weekly newsletter and in the center of the page, in bold no less, was this text: Quote: |

Anyone else get something like this sent home?

wait...what...now you can't even have friends in your photos at school events? what happened to having fun and capturing memories of your school years with your friends?
ugh
I thought it was bad when school policy said my child wasn't allowed to pass out birthday party invitations at school, but wow this is ridiculous.

That is ridiculous! How could they possibly enforce such a stupid rule? No, thank God, our district hasn't come up with anything so foolish. Since it came from the ISD it's already over the principal's head. I'd start CALLING school board members asap as well as emailing everyone I know with contact information for the school board crazies - I mean members. Good luck!

Its a typical over reaction to something. Has someone done something in the district recently?

I have to email the principal. I searched the PISD policies and regulations site for photograph, picture, and camera and can find no such district rule.

We are increasingly being molded into a sterile world...void of contact or comment. Our social growth depends on it...so, what kind of children are we raising? Where will they learn that life isn't easy, that friends are invaluable and falls and scrapes are what toughen us for lives's bad roads?
Good luck in your quest.

What if you don't work on the yearbook staff, but do work on the newspaper staff? I guess they can't shoot pictures for the school newspaper then...unless of course, it's only one student at a time.

i would do a letter to the editor in as many papers as i could find ink to write to. my son got in trouble for sharing his lunch with a kid who forgot his and didn't have money to buy it.yeah, adults know they more than likely would have charged a lunch, but most six year olds would be afraid to ask. i shudder to think what is coming in the future for our children to deal with....

This is ridiculous! "Other School Activities" would mean no cameras at athletic events, graduation events, Christmas parties, etc.....
They might as well put a 'No Cameras', sign at the school entry.

I'd be willing to bet that's part of the reason for that rule. Can you believe that there are schools that are banning peanut butter and any peanut products in the school? Seriously no PBJ? The world of "allergies" has gotten out of control, and yes many "rule makers" are sterilizing the world.

It was the ONLY sandwich I would eat and I ate one every day of my school career. I've since broadened my food horizons, but I still love a good ole PB sandwich.
It does seem that kids do get to do less and less every passing year. Sad.

One of the many reasons Home Schooling is so popular today.
I will bet that some "legal eagle" suggested this, and the district has made the pronouncement to cover it's legal butt. Now of course, some faculty and administrators will "over protect" and God forbid you should take out your cell phone camera at a school event.
Good luck with your complaint process. I'd suggest media involvement if you can convince them it is new worthy. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
