A 75-year-old retired Tableland man, amateur photographer and bird enthusiast, took the pictures that sparked an international media frenzy yesterday in his Tableland back yard, near Cairns (Australia), last week.

Not exactly the type or size of eight legged critter I'd want to see hanging around on my back porch. Impressive captures though.

I read an article somewhere that the Golden Orb Weavers found in Australia average about the size of a human fist (some larger, some slightly smaller). So, I'd say this spider is about the size of a typical bird. (Yikes!)

I read the title of the thread and first thought, why in the world would a bird want to eat pictures of spiders?
