Take a look and (if you can), vote for what you think is the best of the 25.

Warning, the images are very emotional.

You are welcome to debate images that should/should not be included but do not ruin this thread by commentary you know is against the forum rules.

Wow - great post Joe. That really stresses the power of a photograph. I hadn't seen the one from the World Trade Center.

Number 22, The Vulture and the Child in the Sudan, was done by Kevin Carter. He was one of the four members of the Bang Bang Club covering South Africa's move to a multiracial nation in the '90's. Not long after winning a Pulitzer for the Sudan photo he committed suicide.

Only two members of Bang Bang Club are alive today.

Great series. I have a few quibbles:

The sailor kissing a stranger on the street on VJ day.

The guy giving the finger to the police outside the DNC in Chicago.

Tommie Smith and John Carlos' Black Power salute on the podium of the Mexico City Olympics.

The one of the kids holding a cardboard box over their heads to protect themselves from the rain at Woodstock.

And I could probably come up with a ton of other ones. I suppose this sort of quibbling is bound to happen on a list of just 25.

Thanks for posting.

Wow what a strong imagines. I was fan of Eddie Adams. I love his work. So powerful photo to show everyone. I didn't see that part of World Trade Center. Great thread, Joe.

How do you choose among such icons.. astounding set.

John John saluting his dad's coffin.. the execution in a street in Vietnam.. the naked girl fleeing her bombed village.. the falling man that makes the world spanning horror of 9/11 personal... and more and more...

I do agree with Duffy on his first point.. that VJ day kiss could replace a couple of those images. Not all PJ has to be sad or horrific to be great.
