Tonight, during dinner, our 11 year old son who is in the sixth grade informed us they during Social Studies, they participated in a mock election. We were like, that's great. He was really excited because they even got "I voted" stickers. My husband asked him who he voted for but told him he didn't have to say because "your vote is a personal choice/right". He proudly announced "Obama". I asked him to tell me why he chose the candidate he did. His response. "He has a cool name". Kids. You gotta love it!
BTW - this is NOT a political thread so lets keep it light-hearted if you choose to respond.

Our 14 year old daughter informed us tonight at dinner she was going to stay up until the presidential winner was declared. I commented on her sense of civic interest in the election process when she went on to tell us she wanted to be able to tell her grandkids she was alive when we elected either an old guy and the first female vice president or the first African American and the old guy.
At least she understands the moment.

I happen to be talking to shey about how him and his 8 yr old daughter have the same "poop eatting grin" she turned around and said "EWWWWWWWWW THATS GROSS! I DONT eat poop! maybe you do, but I dont!" sheesh! hehehe Kids are WAY too much fun sometimes!
We also took her to a haunted house a few weeks ago. every time someone would jump out to scare her she would turn around and tell them...."you arent scary!!! your just a person in makeup!" hehehe

my daughter and i were sitting in the ER the other day b/c she was vomiting from a concussion. They gave her zophran, and we were testing our limits. She ate 3 chicken nuggets from her happy meal. She told me "I think I'm gonna throw up." So being the dutiful mom I put the vomit bag up to her mouth for her, she grabbed it. BELCH!!! "I just burped. I'm alright!"

My 13 year old came home talking about their mock election in the 8th grade... she voted McCain.....
... and was promptly told by a classmate that she must be racist if she didn't vote for Obama. Gotta wonder what that kid's parents are teaching him....
I told her to reply that it doesn't matter if you voted for or against someone.. if you voted that way because of their skin color, then you are the racist. Racism is an ugly thing and should be called out wherever it hides.
Vote for or against the candidate, not his or her heritage.

My 7yr old voted for McCain in his class because the teacher was talking about him being a POW. My son love military story's and anything about soldiers.
Then later that night when all the TV coverage was on he said "I thought McCain was the black guy?".
I am glad they are talking about voting at an early age.

My nephew says he voted Obama. I asked same question what is the reason behind it. He says I like him. I ask him again what quality do you like? Answer: because all kids likes him. I left it there.

I got you all beat. I attempted (yes, insanely) to explain at least a portion of the whole thing to my two-and-a-half year old. She promptly announce that she thought she should run the country. When I eventually explained that she couldn't and it was down to McCain and Obama, she though I was saying "O's Mama" so she thought her mama should run the country. In her "mock election" at preschool, though, they just got to vote for colors. She voted for blue (because it matches Cinderella, of course). So first herself, then me and then blue get her vote.

That's adorable, Kathleen! I am so thrilled kids are being taught about the political process at an early age as well. I don't remember such teachings before high school.

Ok..
Well.. my 1 year old was sitting there and the TV show, "The Biggest Loser" came on and a man walked out with his shirt off and my daughter yells out, "Daddy!!"
Kill me now.
BTW: My son comes home from school and says..."I think all of the brown kids voted for Obama..." Interesting...
