He gets really excited about making spreadsheets. He makes them for playing the Auction House in World of Warcraft. He makes them for completely random things.
I asked him to make me one so I could figure out my profit vs cost, and he said he was really excited. (Well, he was a bit more crude than that, but I think I'll spare you, LOL)
He complains about the lack of physics in video games.
When we go on long trips, he watches the lines in the middle of the road and times them so he can calculate how fast we're going without looking at the speedometer, just to pass the time.
My husband is a big nerd. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

Heck - get him to program some Photog related spreadsheets for everyone and upload him.
Then he'd be a big lovable nerd to TPF!

Teehee, I never said anything was wrong with it :D You're talking to a chick who has 3 level 70's in World of Warcraft, and plays Guitar Hero till her hands go numb. I lurve him to death.
Actually, if we can get it tweaked right, I may upload the spreadsheet here for you guys, it'd probably be a handy tool to have. | | | |

spreadsheets? gads, the stories I could tell. ok, i will....
Once made one for expenses, I built one that printed just like the company's official triplicate paper copy. Lots of people liked it (since you could email it for one thing...radical, eh?) and the company wound up glomming on to it as the "official expense form".
Then I started doing international travel, so it took the same, made an "entry page" where you entered in local currency (it looked just like the real expense form too), but when you printed it, it printed only another sheet which used the conversion rate to convert each cell back to USA $. That too was adopted by the corporate beancounters. They added some foofoo logos and form numbers, but the bulk of it was mine.....
recently my present company had recurring issues calculating vacation time. (not the company, the idiots we subcontracted this too). For 2 years in a row, they couldn't get the previous year's time to roll forward. (is this rocket science?? God help them, they were using some SAP crap)
I built a simple spreadsheet that allowed you to keep track, subtract as you used it, have it accumulate at whatever rate you needed (some get 3 weeks per year, some 4, some 5, etc). yes, it rolled over just fine. I shared it with our admin last year; just the other day, someone emailed it to me as something they got from someone, who got it from someone....it had been embellished and improved a bit, but it was fundamentally the one I built. Supposed the issue is fixed, but a lot of folks still don't trust 'em....
and I am just geeky enough to maintain an XLS file on the mileage on my car. Each fillup: miles per fillup' gallons, price, etc to get a single tank mpg, overall average mpg, $/mile, etc. Also track maintenance costs: oil, tires, etc.
hey, I'm an engineer. Geeky is part of the entry fee.
and yes, I use for for tracking and locating photos. It's awfully basic, but the one for train pics has like 2,000 lines.....it would work better as an Access database, but i don't know Access......

I have a friend (a single dad with two girls) who keeps household chores and tasks categorized by days and frequency, from vacuuming the carpet to cleaning the light bulbs in the bathrooms. Seriously. His house is immaculate. LOL
