My parents have a 16-yr old Terrier mix at home that is getting closer and closer to his time. I am not sure who will be more depressed when he crosses that Rainbow Bridge...my dad or the 5-yr old lab Cali who nearly single handily gave Tex the energy to make it as long as he has.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

I'm sorry for your loss. But take comfort in knowing that you saved one of God's creatures and gave her a 2nd chance.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It has been 2.5 yrs since my beagle, Charlie died and I still can't talk about him without getting teary. I have two crazy boxers now and love them very much, but each pet is unique.

Thanks guys, she was old, deaf, partially blind, the kids never played with her because she just wanted to curl up next to you and sleep, but she was always there in my office with me, followed me around the house, wanted to always be where I was in the house, and was my buddy dog. We rescued her after she had been thrown away for whatever reason, and was on the list to be put down.

Sorry to hear about your loss. My own household is not the same these days; we lost our golden retriever (Chelsea) about six weeks ago and our pet cat (Muffin) about a month ago. We rescued Muffin from an animal shelter 20 years ago on the day she was to have been euthanized. We miss them both.

As I sit here and look at my faithful black Lab sleeping at my feet, I can truly appreciate your loss.

Good going saving her in the first place.
