Officer shot - the longest 3 minutes of his life! - 11-11-2008, 03:47 PM

This shooting happened in June and they have just convicted the suspect and released the video.

The longest 3 minutes of his life!

FULL STORY

BROWNSVILLE -- Jurors handed down a 99-year prison sentence for gang member Abraham Mar for attempted capital murder in the June 25 shooting of Harlingen police officer Carlos Diaz and a two-year state jail sentence for fleeing from police.

Prosecutors said Mar will serve both sentences at the same time.

The confessed member of the West Side Aquas and Los Vallucos gangs hung his head as he was removed from Judge Leonel Alejandro's courtroom by bailiffs after the judge ordered him to be immediately turned over to the sheriff's office to begin serving his sentence.

Mar will later be transferred from the Carizzalez-Rucker Detention Center at Olmito to the Texas Department of Corrections diagnostic unit at Huntsville, where state officials will decide where Mar will serve his sentence.

Chief First Assistant District Attorney Charles Mattingly said the jury gave maximum sentences, in terms of years, on both charges and fines of $10,000 on each count.

Diaz sat quietly with his wife and was surrounded by fellow officers who placed their hands on his shoulder in support. Diaz testifed during the trial he hopes to return to duty after more medical treatment.

Semi-automatic AR-15 carbine for the looks of it. It's not the gun that's the problem here.

He is lucky to be alive. He will face years of recovery.

Didn't imply that it was.
