Foster Great Dane in Need of Forever Home - 11-12-2008, 08:39 PM

Hey Guys! We currently have a foster great dane that is in need of a home. She is a 4 year old female mantle (black with white on her tummy, face, and paws), spayed, and has cropped ears. She is incredibly sweet and loves people. She is up to date on all shots, but is currently being treated for heartworms. The heartworms are not expected to compromise her health in any way, though.

She is fantastic with kids and does well with small dogs... and by small dogs I mean lab size and smaller. She is great with our border collie and 85 pound great dane mix, but not so great with our pure bred great dane who is more her size. She can not go to a home with small animals such as birds or fish and we'd prefer a home without cats. She likes to chase our cats.

She is a very quick learner and wants nothing more than love. She is very playful, but clearly never had any toys in her previous life. I am still trying to teach her how to play with dog toys.

She is totally house trained and crate trained and I have her on a schedule of staying in her crate all day until the kids get home from school to prepare her for the possibility of a family where everyone is gone during the day.

I took her in in mid-October when she was picked up as a stray by the City of Houston. They contacted a great dane group I'm a part of to come pull her because she's clearly pure bred. We believe she was most likely a puppy mill dog that was dumped after several litters. Now that we've gotten her spayed, up to date on shots, and started on the heartworm treatment, I really need to find a forever family for her since we have 3 dogs of our own. If you or anyone you know is interested in Daisy, please PM me.

She is going to make a wonderful addition to some family and epitomizes why the breed is called Gentle Giants!

While great danes are inside dogs, she will definitely need a fenced in yard for playtime outside.

I've had a request for photos so here she is with my older son. Ignore the quality as I was just trying to get a few quick snapshots of her. And yes, my son is less than enthusiastic about having his picture taken. Something about 13 year olds.

She's gorgeous -- I'd take her in a flash if I didn't already have my hands full with 200+ pounds of dog. We had danes growing up and they really are sweet dogs.

I travel too much to be a good owner to her but she is gorgeous. Great Danes are hands down the finest dog on this earth. I still miss my last one and she's been gone a very long time...

She looks like a taller, bigger, short-haired, squooshed version of my Border collie. Love the bokeh on your "snapshots."

Good luck!

Oh, man, I so wish I could take her... they really are the best dogs, and while my kids have been begging for one, our current lease won't let us have pets. I will put the word out among my Dane friendly friends.

Happy Gotcha Day Daisy!!!!

I read this thread last year and adopted Daisy. She has exceeded my expectations as a new dog owner. Even today, she makes me laugh out loud when she takes off on a zoomie or does the Daisy Kiddlehopper dance. I'm still amazed at her agility and speed when running off leash and even more her desire to please amd learn new commands. She still has little interest in her own toys but loves to play hide-n-seek (even though she will cheat if she is allowed.) She is such a joy to be around and makes coming home just better.

David

That's awesome David. I'm so glad she went to a good home. I remember seeing the original post last year, and I wanted her so badly at the time. I already had a dog though and Great Danes eat a LOT of food= $$$
Thanks for updating us. Feel free to share more shots of her.
What's a "zoomie" or the "Kiddlehopper Dance"?

Yay! It's so good to hear happy endings!

This is a zoomie - though by a much much smaller, stubbier dog. I would guess the Daisy Kiddlehopper Dance involves a form of prancing and jumping around, long legs a-flying.
