Performing Arts Photographer?? - 11-17-2008, 12:19 AM

I'm looking for a photographer to write a paper on for class. I have to compare/contrast two photogs. And produce an image similar to theirs. Because of my lifelong involvement with my dance studio (and growing portfolio) I've decided to choose Performing Arts photographers.

I've already found this guy: http://www.davidbazemore.com/Home.html He mainly shoots live productions.

So I'd like to find someone who shoots in-studio performers (as well as live). I'm having a hard time finding someone, well, "professional" enough just through google searches. Any suggestions?? I'd be happy to feature someone from this board too if there are any out there.

Thanks!!

You might consider Don Barnes, but in a different sense than the photog you have mentioned. Don shoots a number of local dance schools and has a very classic lighting style. Might make for a real contrast...

In the spirit of full disclosure, I am privaledged to work with Don.

Sometimes I sing or hum while I'm processing my photos. Does that make me a "performing arts" photographer?

Good luck on the search!

Haha, thanks for all the replies!

I took a look at Don Barnes' website. I really like his shots, but there weren't very many on display of ballerinas. And because of the time-crunch I wasn't able to ask him for more samples.

I looked up Joe McNally, however, and I really like what I saw! He had a very extensive portfolio of the kinds of performing arts shots I was looking for. And they are very unique shots. I was also able to find ample biographical information for the paper. Thank you very much for recommending him!

Somehow, I also found Lois Greenfield. She also has some stunning studio shots of the performing arts and dancers. She made a great comparison for the paper.

Thanks for the help everyone. =)
