Any bands that remind you of...... - 11-18-2008, 01:15 PM

Are there any current bands/musicians who's music would remind you of Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond or Wish You Were Here albums?

I'm trying to find new music but I can't sift through all of the stuff that's out there to find anything that's worthwhile. (to me)

I have some fairly odd musical tastes that ranges anywhere from Bob Marley to Bryan Ferry to George Clinton to Thievery Corporation to Morcheeba to Galactic to Van Hunt to Earth Wind & Fire to Jill Cunniff to Neil Young to Creedance Clearwater Revival to Afterlife to Sade to Joe Satriani to QUEEN to Amp Fiddler to Groundation to maxwell to Toshi Reagon to Boozoo Baju to Al Green to barry white to Billy Idol to Carlos Santana to Eryka Badu to Seal to Robin Trower to The The to Tears For Fears to Medeski, Martin & Wood and so on and so on.

I'm not up on modern rock bands but maybe it's one of the 75 bands supposedly depicted in this picture...Ben

Easy solution. Go to Pandora, type in 'Pink Floyd', sit back and enjoy :-)

Wish it was that easy. You still have to sift through all of the bad selections that Pandora will pick for you.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Not necessarily like Pink Floyd, but I find all my new music on photo shoots. The newest bands I really like are Kings of Leon and Citizen Cope.

Ok at least I see guns & roses, spoon, White Snake? 50 cent, Pet Shop Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, The Eagles, Zepplin?, Scorpions?, Blues Brothers?, Blind Melon, cowboy junkies, black flag, blur, chili peppers, black crows, radiohead, police, manhole, yellowman, eels, the pixies, garbage.

There are probably a lot of modern groups that I have never even heard of.

I do have one CD by Citizen Cope that I got free and I do like a few songs. I will check out Kings of Leon.

Porcupine Tree is pretty close to their sound. You might want to give them a try.

OK, (without looking at the answer sheet, or the answers above), here's what I can see:

Scorpions, Cake, Guns'n'Roses, Queen, Sex Pistols, Prince, 50 Cent, Madonna, Seal, Pet Shop Boys, Whitesnake, Matchbox 20, Scissor Sisters, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Spoon, Eagles, Cars, Ratt, Fish, Lemonheads, Green Day, Rolling Stones, B-52s, Led Zeppelin, Beach Boys.

Those gorillas are driving me nuts though. And the dude in yellow. (Yello?) And all the others. And I wish we could see the middle of the page spread... Right, I'm going to look at the answers now.

If it wasn't for the fact that the people you listed are so absolutely diverse, I probably wouldn't bother recommending this, but you might find a gem in amongst the twenty or so artist on the site

http://www.losthighwayrecords.com/

Although it's nothing like pink floyd, there are some great artist on there with some very original songs!

If you like (or can even stomach) a country type sound there are some really really great songs in the mix.

Take a look,

While not current, you could try the Alan Parsons Project.
