I finally got around to checking out the T-Mobile G1. What a huge disappointment! It's basically a $179 toy. At the moment it is no where near a business phone/PDA.

I feel soooooo much better about getting the 3G iPhone.

I have a g1, and I love it. The only downfall in my point of view is that developers aren't releasing good apps until T-mobiles 90 days of free apps is over. The g1 is now barely a month old, so we still have 2 months to wait.....ARG...and I've seen some of the apps in development, and its quit impressive.

I think while the iphone is an impressive phone, and the fact that it has had alot more time to develop and grow (years compared to G1's 1 month), definately shames the g1. However, that's going to change.

I also don't think the g1 is as "user friendly" as the iphone, but anyone who knows how to work a computer will like the phone. In fact, mine runs smoother then most of my friends iphones, and is more customizable. However, AT&T's 3g is much faster then t-mobile.

All in all, both are good phones, I just see the iphone as more of a multimedia phone, whereas the G1 will EVENTUALLY be more like a small mobile PC.

Yea the first couple of days I wasn't happy with the g1 at all. Horrible battery life, and choppy OS. Since then they've released two updates that have made big differences.

I think if you want a badass phone right now, definately get the iphone. I think those of us with G1's are in it for the long haul. Both extremely awesome phones, and miles ahead of my old crackberry.

I love my iPhone. I don't understand where you get that its not a mobile PC? It can do anything you could possibly want it to do.(not incl. picture msgs) :)

I think the G1 is a great phone as well. Other than the appearance and lack of apps its a solid phone. It even takes amazing pictures.

I'll stay with my iPhone 3G :)

I have an iPhone hacked onto T-Mobile and couldn't be happier. I love it.

I have thought about picking up a G1 though but I keep hearing stuff like this and it kind of discourages that idea.

I have had mine for 10 days and like it. The navigation is a cinch, and since I use Gmail a lot, that part is really sweet

I never said it wasn't a mobile PC. It could be a mobile PC for some people, depending on what you consider a PC. For most a PC is just to surf myspace and listen to music.

That's not what I consider a PC. It can't do everything I want it to do. Not even close. Right now I have a linux command line interface on the G1 which I can send commands to my linux box here at work. Most of you won't even know what that means, but to us computer geeks, that alone blows the iphone out of the water.

The iphone is cool for people who just want the phone to do stuff for them without being too advanced. The G1 is cool for people who want to explore the possibilities of a phone. Example, a developer in Nevada modified his garage door opener to be controlled by his G1 using wifi and a computer in his garage. Someone else has modified their car alarm to work through the G1, and they have an app in development to work through home alarms (still in development to test security).

I think the fact that its open source is going to make a big difference on the Android OS in the future.

Again, not saying anything bad about the iphone, its a nice multimedia phone, but for computer geeks/techies, it is very very limited. As usual, Apple has a tight grip on anything they make (including the OS of that phone), whereas Google has already released all the coding for their OS.

Two different phones for two completely different kinds of people. I personally don't think its fair to compare the two.

The expandablility and open source programming capability of the G1 are its major attractions to me. Unfortunately, I'm not overly enthused with AT&T - if they offered one for Verizon, I'd be all over that.

Still - a phone that can open your garage door? What's next - remote start for your car, controlled by your phone? I can imagine it.

I'm a complete comp geek, but that doesn't excite me.
