I think the G1 is a great phone as well. Other than the appearance and lack of apps its a solid phone. It even takes amazing pictures.
I'll stay with my iPhone 3G :) |
I never said it wasn't a mobile PC. It could be a mobile PC for some people, depending on what you consider a PC. For most a PC is just to surf myspace and listen to music.
That's not what I consider a PC. It can't do everything I want it to do. Not even close. Right now I have a linux command line interface on the G1 which I can send commands to my linux box here at work. Most of you won't even know what that means, but to us computer geeks, that alone blows the iphone out of the water.
The iphone is cool for people who just want the phone to do stuff for them without being too advanced. The G1 is cool for people who want to explore the possibilities of a phone. Example, a developer in Nevada modified his garage door opener to be controlled by his G1 using wifi and a computer in his garage. Someone else has modified their car alarm to work through the G1, and they have an app in development to work through home alarms (still in development to test security).
I think the fact that its open source is going to make a big difference on the Android OS in the future.
Again, not saying anything bad about the iphone, its a nice multimedia phone, but for computer geeks/techies, it is very very limited. As usual, Apple has a tight grip on anything they make (including the OS of that phone), whereas Google has already released all the coding for their OS.
Two different phones for two completely different kinds of people. I personally don't think its fair to compare the two.
