Venice is an AMAZING city. It's truly sad. My wife and i spent a few lazy days there and i really went in thinking i wouldn't like it, but it won me over. So much amazing history and so easy to get lost, but in a good way. But it is a dying city. Most people who live there can't afford it unless they work in tourism in some way. All the old people are being forced to move out.

I love Venice, the place is one of a kind. I love how the images show people adapting and still having fun there. An incredible place.

We were just there for a week in September and it just makes it so much more personal to see this flood. It's awful on so many levels to see what is happening and what the world may be losing. You are right, Venice is an amazing city. We loved wandering around - amazing how even blocks away from St. Marks and Rialto is a whole different perspective on the city.

On another note, we're also glad we aren't in another city we loved visiting this week -- Bangkok. While we left the day before the last coup against Thaksin in 2006, we never felt concerned about our safety. This airport standoff is going to really hurt them tourist-wise and there is a mix of violence thrown in this time that wasn't there a few years ago.
