XBOX 360 experience - 12-03-2008, 11:33 AM

So my son bought himself an xbox 360 and now "we" need to figure out how to connect this silly thing to internet so he can go live. Internet connection is downstairs and across the house. Do you think that lovely $100 wireless connector they sell for the 360 will work? I'm concerned the distance and the walls will be a problem....

But the alternative is another modem, router and monthly fee...not too excited about that either.

you shouldn't have an issue with the wireless.

Our wireless base is upstairs, our son's room is downstairs on the other side of the house . .wireless works fine. And FYI, we bought a used wireless adapter for the 360 at Gamestop for $70 . .works great.

I agree the distance isn't a problem, but that depends on what wireless router you have. I have a netgear wireless N router. It's located downstairs in the front with the x-box located upstairs in the back. I also bought a used adapter from gamestop and haven't had any issues.

Much better to plug it in, especially if you are using Netflix on it (like I do.)

Our house is wireless and since we are basically laptop users, the base is downstairs and we havent had a problem, so I think you'd be fine. I'd look around to see if you could possibly obtain a cheaper router It doesnt hurt to save some money, this way you can buy other things. We're deciding between the X box or the Wii, how is the Xbox?

Both Xbox and Wii are great, Wii more family based and all the family can get into it!

Well we did the wireless and it works fine...thanks for the help.

My kids have bought both the Wii and 360...one likes the 360 better (at least of lately!!) because he has signed up for the live, so he plays with his friends online...

I second that. my wife wanted the wii so we all could play. well I think we have fired that wii up about 4 times in the last 4 months. only time we can play is at night when the 1 year old is sleeping and the wife wants to watch tv. So the xbox is for daddy from 9:30 to 12:30...

I think the wii is great for a family but for some one that really wants to play console games with a pc feel you just can't beat the xbox.

Thanks, I'm learning everything there is about both. Right now, I 've gotten so much information, I've managed to confuse myself. I think I'll just go with my gut, and let the chips lay where they may. Since I haven't played a video game in ages, this has been a real learning process. Whichever we get, it will be for everybody (Ha).

Wireless - 12-10-2008, 12:48 AM

If a wireless laptop works, the Xbox 360 wireless solution will work too. The reality is that Xbox boes not transfer that much data over the internet when playing games. The only place he might see an issue is if he is watching streaming video. But as others suggest, if you have an A or G router, this adapter will support it and the connection speed should be fine. I'd buy it.

Learn something new everyday... I own a Wii and a PS3.. Both have wireless networking built-in. Would have thought they'd include that ~$10 peripheral...Guess MS has to make their money back somehow on all those repairs.. LOL

Have fun with it!
