I have visited the HCP while in Houston but not taken classes. It is a good organization, sometimes working with FotoFest. I don't know about the classes.

i took a class there once, and you can't go by my experience however. i thought the instructor was mediocre, unorganized, and un-inspiring. i think any class you can take most places will be good if you find a good instructor.

I asked about doing a showing there, but i guess i have to be a member and pay for the showing. I think I am just going to do one at a Custom Bike builders shop instead. They where kind of rude when I was in there............maybe I am just not artsy enough

Cy-Fair College, I think it's now Lone Star College, at West Road & Barker Cypress offers about 4 semesters of photography courses. The first two semesters involve antique photographic methods. After that, they move on to digi-stuff.

I took a couple of 1 day classes from the Texas Institute of Photography (in Houston) in October. I was satisfied with the instructor and the material covered. Their website is:

Thanks everyone for responding! i have taken a class at LLU and liked it well enough, but i am looking for something more advanced and creative than what they are offering right now.

I will check out that link to texas institute of Photography.

Jen,

I would also recomend maybe...to donate your time to a Pro that can teach you...the old apprenticeship thing....

I am sure a lot of people could use a second or third camera...and would be willing to teach so you learn while working...

I always like hands on....

Tony- i have actually inquired about this a few times, once here when i introducted myself and on another photo board, but never got anywhere.

I would love to do that and learn the best that way. do you have a suggestion on where to find such a person that would be willing to 'mentor' me? i live out in north west harris county, in Cypress.
