Wildflowers - 02-13-2005, 10:52 PM

I'm very interested in seeing (and photographing) the wildflowers this year. But I haven't paid the least bit of attention to wildflower season. So I need advice.

When is the best time to see the flowers? Where is the best place to see them? Any places fairly close to Houston? Any other things I need to think about or know while I'm making these plans?

When they start blooming people start posting here. A lot of folks hit the roads out around Brenham, as there are usually good stands of them there. The fredricksberg area has a lot of places too, but it is a long drive, unless yall like to travel. My wife and I make a motorcycle road trip of it to see them. I'll have to find my map and make a list of roads that have been good producers in the past.

Here in East Texas, normally late April - June we see lots of wildflowers. If I want to shoot bluebonnets, I go towards Brenham and Fredricksburg as was mentioned. Late winter-early spring here I have a Crimson Clover field I watch for.

In central Texas its around mid April.
here is a little gallery form Central Texas taken April 17th.

This area is a quick jump for you form Houston, this was just south of Collage Station. I just drove on the back roads and found some really beautiful areas and there was just no one around.
