Music. - 12-11-2008, 04:36 PM

Being one of those who has a gazillion different hobbies, I am also a music lover and at one time got paid to play guitar. A true musician listens to many different styles of music just like a photog would change lenses for the different moods they are in. Music is an art as well as anything to do with photography as an expression of mood. One of my favorite musicians is from Texas. Enjoy!

If we are talking Texas music, there's no one like Alejandro Escovedo.

I have a favorites playlist on my mp3 player, among others on that playlist are:

The Doors
Troy Shondell
Roy Orbison
The GoGos
The Mavericks
Hank Williams (1st)
Green Day
The Rolling Stones
Benny Goodman
Glenn Miller
The Crewcuts
The Vogues
The Lettermen
The B52s
Patsy Cline
The Outlaws
Austin Lounge Lizards
Commander Cody
Joe Satriani
Jeff Beck
Taco
Bob Dylan
Johnnie Winter
RamJam
Soft Cell
The Youngbloods

I have it set on random play, folks that ride with me give some curious looks. Those that know me understand. Both of my sons play in bands, here's one of them:

the 1st Whitehead in Texas (Henry) was traveling violin teacher and ballroom dance instructor. We have his journal that documented his 6 week trip from near Liberty Hill in central Texas to New Orleans to purchase sheet music during the Repulic of Texas era. So it is in the genes....

I bet there's a bunch of musicians on here. The links you guys posted were enjoyable- I too have a wide/eclectic taste in music. But my heart lies with The Police. I'm a drummer, I actually got to play with them during soundcheck when they came around this past summer. Dream come true. But anyways- I wanted to share as well- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDyfm...BEEE9&index=10

There's plenty more on there, feel free to listen/comment/etc. :)

Ill have to agree with gary, though all of the other bands posted are awsome , there is just something about Stevie ray and the sounds that he created, man he was awsome, and to think he couldnt read music... I remember when my late brother "Jorge" turned me on to this guy ! ive been hooked ever since. ! i miss them both.....

I played trumpet with this group for ten years in New York before I moved to Texas. I miss it.

lots of natural musicians can't read music, they play by ear. my youngest doesn't, and he plays keyboard, guitar and sings, composing and performing all the same.
