Question itunes help!!! - 12-13-2008, 01:25 PM

OK, Mike and I have 2 ipods and we swap once in a while so we have duplicate music on both. Im prefacing this so I dont sound totally stupid - just slightly stupid. I was deleting duplicate music to put a movie on one for the kids.

I was deleting the duplicate list off of his ipod and accidentally deleted it off of the computer instead. I tried to copy it off of his ipod back onto the computer and it wont let me. Any help? I tried undo. It wont. :o( HELP!

is there any chance the files are still in the recycle bin?

is it possible that you just removed the files database and not the music it self?

There are some tools that will allow you to move the files from an ipod onto a computer. I will have to go look at another forum to find the names for you.

If you want me to find the name, just say so, but before that, check to make certain the files are actually missing, and not just the list that i-tunes keeps.

When you deleted the songs, did it ask you to keep the files? Check the My Music Folder for an iTunes Folder. But, you may already have tried that.

I right clicked on the folder for the playlist and hit delete. Then it asked me are you sure? I said yep. And it deleted the entire playlist. I tried to drag and drop the entire playlist, undo, import off the ipod, drag and drop one song at a time, and I got nothing. Im so stupid! Its amazing I can turn on my camera! I cant believe I did that.

Deleting the playlist (on the left hand side of iTunes) should only delete the playlist and not the actual songs. But if somehow the songs have been deleted from iTunes, check the music folder under the iTunes folder to see if the artists/songs are still there. If they are you can just re add them back into iTunes. I know it sounds dumb- they're already there in the folder, why should I have to add them back in? I agree, but when you delete them out of your library in iTunes but you keep the files, you have to make iTunes recognize them again. Click on file, add folder to library, and reselect the songs.

If they are truly gone, look for a program called Senuti - works really well for copying songs from iPods (illegally) and adding them into your iTunes library.

If in fact you deleted from your music library - Check your trash. Unless you emptied the trash, they shoudl still be there.

Deleting playlist does not delete songs, you can remove songs from a playlist but still have them in your music library. So check your main song library, since you may have just removed them from a playlist.

It's already been said, but deleting songs from a playlist (or the entire playlist) can leave them in your music library, which is where the songs actually are.
