Funny/Sad phone call the other day - 12-13-2008, 11:30 PM

I was at work the other day, and my cell phone rang.

972 area code -- I live in 806.

Phone call went a bit like this:

Answered with my name

"Hi there, this is Veronica with Massage Envy, and I wanted to check to see if you would like to schedule one of the remaining massages of your pre-purchased package of massages?"

(me) "excuse me??? Who are you calling for?"

(her) {she says my full name}

(me) "Where are you located? Are you in Dallas?"

(her) "We are in Garland, outside of Dallas."

(me) "When did this get purchased?"

(her) "1 December. Says here it was paid for by a {insert my sister's name}

(me) "Do you have any idea what you have just done? You've just let me know exactly what I am getting for Christmas!"

(her) "Oh wow! I am so sorry! I was just handed a list of names to call, with account details and phone numbers..."

(me) "Well, you might want to check and make certain that the rest of these folks were'nt planning on giving them as gifts later in the month!"

On one hand, this is a cool gift, and it let's me know about how high my sister has set the bar for the gift giving this year (which is a good thing) and I do like to get a massage from time to time.

On the other hand -- what is this company thinking!!!!! I mean come on! It is Christmas Time, and this was obviously a gift purchase. Couldn't they wait until I had used at least one of them before they start calling reminding me that I still had a balance remaining???

I am 38 years old... I like opening the presents for the surprise factor! Now I don't know how to react... I'll have to act surprised, but not overdo it.

Anyway -- just wanted to blab about it, cause I really want to tell my sister about the funny story, but can't, so I thought I would post it here instead.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

Awww... that is so sweet of her and (I'm sorry) so stupid of them!!

Here's another story for you: My daughter's best friend called her yesterday and told my daughter that she found one of her presents. I SO hope that this isn't a Santa gift!! My daughter still believes and I would be sad if she figured something out this year!! :( What would I say?

remind yourself that it is the thought that counts. sounds trite, but it is so fundamental.

Actually, tell your sister and let HER call and give them a piece of her mind . . . it might do the company some good as I am sure the "temp hired to make phone calls" didn't report your comments to anyone . . .
