Pissing off the courthouse. Excellent plan.

This thread makes me feel Soooooo Old !!!
This sort of attempt has been going on for decades, and makes the news only on really slow days. There has been court case after court case, and the decisions range from "they gotta take it", to "a burden on the office", to "get the hell outta here".

Hope you young folks never get old like me and have "seen it all"...

Pissing off judges probably isn't the best course of action.

Then again, they are supposed to accept cash. It's their bad. Sounds like a bunch of snotty bureaucratic bull to me.

They can take his money and they know it.

The guy is getting exactly what he wanted.

If the court was smart, they would have just taken the pennies with a smile and sent him on his way.

It really doesn't shouldn't matter to them, as it will just go to the bank.

I wouldn't have even blinked if I was the court clerk. The guy would be gone and really the joke would have been on him.

Money is money, I don't see why they wouldn't take it.

Google : paying fine with pennies and you will find articles going way back.

I.E.
Quote:
Section 102 of the Coinage Act of 1965 and section 392 of Title 31 of the United States Code say: "All coins and currencies of the United States, regardless of when coined or issued, shall be legal tender for all debts, public and private, public charges, taxes, duties and dues."

But the Treasury Department says there is no federal law requiring that a private business, person or organization must accept currency or coins as a payment for goods or services.
I believe that the statute would require the court to accept this, but some courts have disagreed.. take it to the supreme court , is the answer, and they wouldn't hear the case.
