Of those outdoor photographers, how many of y'all wear a hat? One similar to this: http://www.rei.com/product/238313

I ask, as I'm debating on several items for my father as I think any head protection either on the water or traveling to a sunny local would help.

Never wore one, until I had skin cancer surgery on my face.
Now, I wear something whenever I am in the sun.
I have a really floppy one that DavidTXS really envies.

Primarily a baseball cap unless I'm on a portrait shoot or something similar, at which time I do not wear any head covering.

If I'm out in the wild shooting nature stuff, I'll wear my pseudo-Indiana Jones hat.

I have a bald spot on the top of the head that burns if I don't wear a hat... (I don't burn anywhere else on the body.. just there.. )

I like the hat you showed... I hate baseball caps... Right now, if I'm out, I end up wearing a hat that I bought at the Discovery Channel Store -- it looks just like the one Zahi Hawass (head of Egypt's antiquities) used to wear before he got a sponsorship deal from the one he wears now. LOL

I wear different ones depending on what I'm doing. Three most worn are:

I bought a Tilley (floppy) hat for kayaking, but I don't like it for that because the floppy brim blows back and doesn't shield my face. I only wear it if I'm going somewhere it is not windy.

For kayaking I wear one of the shapeable Coolibars... The brim stays put and protects my neck and face.

If I'll be out when it's cold, I wear a baseball hat under the hood of my jacket so that the hood doesn't fall in my face. Hoods are always too big for me and I don't like to cinch them down.

Regards,
Patti

I wear a hat when shooting outside to keep the sun off my face. I have the curse of pale skin. My brothers and cousins all inherited my family's Mediterranean skin tones...I didnt. If I didnt have dark hair, Id think I was adopted. So, yes, I usually wear a brimmed hat. And then I toss it off, b/c its in the way.

I don't wear them because they mess with my hairdo.
"Don't mess with the do!"

Seriously, I wear them only on sunny days to shield the sun out of my eyes, then turn it around so the visor doesn't get in the way. Not too crazy about baseball caps, but I have lots of legion caps, something similar to this one.
Or I'd wear them when I'm having BHD.

I wear one these when hiking and/or photographing outdoors: http://ultimatehat.net/cart/index.ph...943787dba0b8a6

Helps keep the sun out of my eyes and off my face/neck. And unlike a ball cap, the flexible brim can be flipped up out of the way when shooting verticals or with a flash. The 'Tropical' UH is very breathable and dries out quickly, so it's great for warm weather when you'll be sweating. It also can survive in the wash and still maintain its shape pretty well.

For the past 26 years, my employer has required me to wear a cover (that's a hat for all you land lovers) at work. I've hated every second of it. I would never, ever wear a hat, unless it is absolutely necessary. Like when I'm out in the hot Texas sun.....

I wear a cap when shooting outdoors because I can turn it around. At other times I sometimes where a golf hat, think Greg Norman, or a cowboy hat. -G
