My dear husband is NOT a photographer, he has only a passing interest in looking at pics, or the tech side of it. He usually gives me some marketing tips, or if he hears something photo related, he will tell me. He's very supportive, but is not concerned with the details.

That being said, I'm sitting at my computer last week, doing some editing. Jeff looks over at me and says, "You have a 5D, right" I said, "Yes, why?" He says, "So when you going to upgrade to the 5DMkII?" He said the look on my face was priceless! He said "Did I blow your mind by knowing what a 5DMkII is???" All I could do was nod! LOL

So tonight, Jeff is making me dinner (cuz I'm sick). He walks over to a pic of me and my sister. He says, "You know, the catch light in this picture is really small, they should have used a bigger light?" I had to do a double take! Again, the look on my face was surprised. He says, "I was listening to you and Brad talk about catch light when we were in Dallas. So now, I can't look at a picture without looking at the catch lights!!!"

Do you think hes a photog in the making?

Probably not. Just a lot of you is rubbing off on him. Don't be surprised with what he will learn over the years.

I have four kids who are in their early 20s now. I have been a full time professional photographer all of their life. So they have seen good photography (at least I like to think so) all of their lives. From the time they were able to help in my business, they have done work for me and my business, numbering negs and prints, sorting pictures for albums, and seeing my portrait work. I did not give it much thought on how much they were learning about photography and art, but it will blow your mind how much they know. I don't think they knew themselves until they went to College and realized they knew a lot of art concepts.

There IS a double edge to this sword. They are so critical of everyone's work now. Including my own.

I don't have a spouse, but I do have a teenage son. He isn't into photography like I am, but he does listen. He also surprises me occasionally with a comment about a photo or piece of equipment. That's as far as it goes though.

Actually, Heather, I find it a blessing in disguise that my husband is not "into" it and didn't realize that I had upgraded my 20D to a 5D 2 years ago or what those little red rings around the end of a lens cost! Sometimes it's best they don't know! About this or the price of certain shoes. LOL.

Lisa,

You upgraded your photography equipment AND buy shoes. Your poor husband. Please take good care of him.

My wife doesn't mind when I "invest" in quality gear. I just bought a 40d and now she's eyeing the XTi for "her" camera. Guess the P&S just isn't enough anymore?

It just struck me as funny, because I just always assume he's not really paying attention to me! LOL I was cleaning the bathroom tonight, im prep for Xmas guests, and he stood in the doorway and said, "I was thinking about those catch light thingies, and I think I like the circle ones better than the square ones." I almost threw a sponge at him LOL. I think hes doing it to freak me out! LOL

Don't ask, don't tell.....works for us.

Sadly, I have lots of other bad habits - travel, skeet shooting, golf, scuba, skiing, cycling (not that I can spend a lot of time or money doing any of those things this year). I learned a long time ago that separate bank accounts are the secret to a happy marriage.
