A New Occupation - 12-22-2008, 11:56 AM

I was the one with my nerdy wind up radio flash light after Hurricane Ike that scared away the would be car robber. Today I was walking my sweet Boston Terrier Dapper when I heard, "BAM!" A lady in a dumpy red car hit one of my neighbor's beautiful Honda Accord. The lady got out of her car and when she observed that her car was fine, she began to take off (didn't even look at the other car for damage). Now I have absolutely the worst memory for numbers, so being a nerd, I wrote down her license plate with a rock on the sidewalk. Sure enough as I rounded the corner with my dog, the lady was outta there! I visited my neighbor and broke the news that her pretty car now has a big dent and left over red paint from the offending lady's car.

Maybe I should be in law enforcement???

You should have been able to rush up to the car and get a good macro shot of the plate. :)

While it sounds bad, your neighbor actually got a Christmas present from you.

What's up with all the dishonesty in Houston? (Just kidding)

That's irritating! Some people just suck!

Good for you. I walk out to my pickup with a bashed in side panel and a note on the window. I thought, well atleast they left their info. I was wrong, it was a couple waiting for her to back out of the parking spot, they saw her back in to my pickup and then leave without a note. They left their info and a description of the car, driver and license number. I made a police report and a week later got a call from her insurance. Seems the police made a home visit and she decided to do the right thing afterall.

When I was in college I saw someone back into a parked car and drive off. I wrote down the plate number and vehicle description and left my name and number. That afternoon, a young lady called me and thanked me. It turns out that she had a part time job as a dispatcher for DPS. A couple of the officers went and visited the guy. He too decided the right thing to do was admit to it.

This very thing happened to me once--I observed a wreck and decided to take a picture before the scoundrel drove off. Unfortunately, by the time I got my tripod set up and took a light meter reading the wretched fiend drove off! I tried to explain that good photography takes time but she wouldn't wait!

Seriously though...It's a good thing you were there and were able to think quickly and resourcefully!

Sorry to hear that, I had something similar occur to me with my car parked in our parking garage at work and someone had backed into the driver side bumber one evening. When I looked around for a note on my car, nope, nothing. Ever since then, I've been looking for a car/truck with possible damage on their passenger side fender/bumper. Sadly, no security cameras other than at the entrance and exits.

Hope your neighbor fells well in getting reimbursed.

A true story ?

A guy backs out of a parking spot at a busy mall, and slams the fender of the car next to him.
He gets out of the car and inspects the damage. The damaged vehicles owner is obviously not around, but a bunch of shoppers were watching the guy as he got out a pad of paper, wrote on it and put it under the damaged vehicles windshield. What else could he have done ?? Right ??
Everyone was satisfied that he had done the decent thing.

His note " I've smashed the fender on your car. Everyone is watching as I write this note. They think I'm leaving my name and number. Screw all of you. Adios "

Good job Therese!

I saw a guy break into 3 cars at Fry's walk back to his car and drive away. I memorized his plate and gave it to the Manager and let them know where he parked so they could watch the video tapes. He snickered that the cameras were not working and I never heard back from Fry's or the Police.

Good for you Therese, glad you noted the number any way you could. I had my truck hit in the parking lot of the grocery store once. They hit the front end so hard it knocked the tool box on the back loose. No one left a note, no one saw it either I guess.

Therese:

Of course it's not true. In the true story, the guy leaves the name and number of a business associate he doesn't like.
