Absolute best workshop/seminar that you've attended? - 12-30-2008, 11:39 AM

If this should be in the Workshop/Seminar section hopefully the moderator will move it for me.

If you could recommend one workshop or seminar to attend this year, what would it be? Here's the issue for me, due to work conflicts, I can't attend, Imaging USA or Texas School so those are out. I shoot portraits, mostly children and families, but would like to learn to shoot weddings. I'd also like to learn/improve on studio lighting, off camera flash use, photoshop, business...ok, all aspects of photography. That opens it up to a lot of things. So with limited time and money, what class/workshop, etc have you taken or you'd recommend that has really benefitted you and your business?

I'm watching for any classes by Fran Reisner, Shelby Lane or Tri-Coast, but so far their 2009 schedules aren't out yet. What do you think?

Craig, I have taken Fran's workshop, and saw Shelby speak in Abilene. Both were fantastic! And great info from both, I would suggest taking all three, because they all have different information. Tri-Coast is on my list this year, seemed like last year Mykey was conspiring against me and had his Texas dates on dates I already had stuff booked on! So I would say, take ALL of them! LOL

A really hard question to answer because a lot depends on your needs and your level of ability.

Rolando Gomez in the Virgin Islands is on a level of its own.

Tri Coast - wireless flash

I haven't attended too many workshops -- but the level of access you get with Rolando's workshops is awesome!

He should have another "Back to the Ranch" workshop coming up in fairly short order. A little more crowded than the VI trip, but also a bit more affordable if you drive instead of flight to St Thomas.

Tom, I'd be interested in a review on RG's VI shoot. I've attended his Glamour, Beauty, and the Nude workshops in the past and did not find it a very good 'learning' workshop. Plenty of pretty girls to shoot, but little to zero instruction from RG himself.

Perhaps a new thread....

I am talking with a studio right now for a workshop in the greater Dallas area.

3 day workshop - small groups ALL HANDS ON LEARNING

We teach while you shoot so you learn the positives and negatives as you go.

first day understanding eTTL/iTTL flash
second day radio popper PX
third day - pretty much anything goes - Photoshop and Lightroom tips and tricks, business, marketing, etc.

remember this is more than just one person teaching you but an entire team of people for the same price that most single teacher/photographer workshops.

If it is under $100, I could probably even afford it. That is if someone up there will let me crash on their couch for 3 nights.

Have it in Brownwood! Free space to do whatever we want! We can all bring sleeping bags, and have a camp fire, and BYOB!

Seriously, I would love a Tri-Coast workshop in DFW!

Honestly people how could we bring 4 to 5 teachers, drive up to Dallas give up 5 days of our business, close down our studio, pay our workshop location, get the snacks and drinks and have 15 students for $100 each?

I'm sorry but education that matters costs money to put on and costs money to attend so the workshop is more than $100.

The reputation of TriCoast and their workshops is second to none! Hopefully, the schedule will work out...either in DFW or elsewhere. Thanks MyKey!
