Wrong place at the right time?

An unidentified man, later identified as Robert Sylvester, brandishes a gun as he jumps from his vehicle on an interstate highway in Normal, Ill. The man, suspected of robbing four banks, led police on a high-speed chase before leaping from his vehicle and being fatally shot by police.

Here's the photographer's account:

Quote:

Published Date: 07 January 2009
A PHOTOGRAPHER who caught an armed robbery suspect as the man fled before being shot by police said yesterday that he feared being held hostage.
David Proeber, picture editor of the Pantagraph newspaper in central Illinois, in the United States, took almost 50 images of the gunman as he stepped out of his vehicle brandishing a handgun following a high-speed chase.

"His eyes met mine," Mr Proeber said. "The next thing I knew, he leaped over the barricade and took a few steps at the car."

Mr Proeber said he feared he would be taken hostage by the man, named locally as Robert Sylvester.

"I didn't think he was going to hurt me," he said. "But I did have a real fear of being inserted into a police story."

Mr Proeber escaped, and the gunman was later arrested by police officers.

Dude, the image of him looking right at you is spine chilling! Can you imagine being the photographer and looking back at these?

If he was fatally shot by police, how is he later arrested?

Actually it's 2 separate articles so the time line doesn't fit. Obviously he was "arrested" while lying on the ground and later died.

Wow. I wonder what lens he was using. Looks pretty tele. Maybe a 70-200 or so. I wonder how far he was from the photog. Those are crazy good shots. How he had a steady hand in that situation is beyond me. They are all nice and sharp!
That first one even has an artistic flair to it! Yowzas!

some good PJ work there. Award winning for sure.

As for him being guilty of bank robbery. Don't care. Point a gun at me and I'm shooting you.

Yeah, it blows my mind how people have the nerve to sue the police for defending themselves and innocent bystanders.
I heard of another case, I think in houston, where there was a protest because police shot a guy for something.
I say, don't break the law, and you won't get shot. It's like they want to break the law with impunity and then cry "excessive force!" when they pay the consequences.
