eyeglass lenses ? - 01-09-2009, 06:38 PM

I just received my first pair of glasses (been wearing contacts for years, not satisfied with them) and something is very odd. The edges of my vision are distorted and fringing. The glasses make me feel like I am looking through a very wide angle lens giving me the fisheye effect, and it's beginning to make me feel sick, I can't really walk straight with them on. Objects directly in the middle of my vision seem smaller and further away, while everything in my peripheral vision bends towards me. I thought I'd just ask here before I call the doc tomorrow, but is this normal???

it sounds like you are very nearsighted?

if you are, i'm gonna say that this is normal because it happened to me when i started wearing glasses after years of wearing contacts. its just something that you will get used to over time. but at the beginning, it sure did give me a lot of eyestrain.

of course, you should go ahead and check with your doctor, just so he can check the glasses and verify that they were made properly.

normal....my daughter has never wore glasses...went straight to contacts. Got her first pair of glasses and hated them!!! The worse your sight is, the more distortion.

That's how I felt when I started wearing glasses, too. It made it hard to even walk out to the parking lot to find my car.

Good news: the feeling will go away and you'll be able to see normally. Bad news: my glasses are forever in my way. Photography was so much easier when my eyes weren't so old and tired!

Nick - it sounds like your axis might be off in your glasses.

Eyes are funny.... if you have any sort of astigmatism, it gets even worse.

I'd suggest that you get yourself a pair of contacts. I had the same issue - it's annoying - I have some of those super thing contact lenses that look like a stiff wind could tear them...but they are particularly tough...imagine that.

hmm doesn't sound right to me - and i've worn glasses off and on all my liffe. most recently tried to get bi-focals...that didn't work for me AT ALL - i was experiencing the same thing - straight ahead was awesome - if i looked even A TINY BIT either way - it was all distorted, blurry - and i ended up taking them back - completely. took my prescription somewhere else and these glasses are awesome. i only wear them to drive at night, so..
