I've carried Sig, S&W, Kimber, but once I started shooting a Glock, my groups were much tighter and my qualification scores went up instantly and they stayed there consistently, wether it was with my 9mm or my .40 cal. I think part of that is due to all of my previous weapons had hammers, and I am left-eye dominant right hand shooter.
As hard as I would try to stay focused, every once in a while I would catch myself seeing the hammer action, and getting distracted. No hammer means no distraction for me :)
I was raised to be extremely safe with firearms, and the lack of what I like to think of a physical safety with the Glock made me super cautious (I agree with a previous poster that the best safety mechanism is between the ears) but once I put a few rounds down range with a Glock 23, I was converted :) | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. But when you are talking Glock etc, I don't see how the trigger finger being the safety is any different than any other DA gun including revolvers.
Oh, and thanks for the Taurus review. I have a Para Ord LDA 1911 and was thinking about picking up its big brother. I don't think I want to switch to the true SA 1911, but the value of Taurus is certainly there (if you get a good copy - they do seem to have QC issues sometimes). | The Glock is carried 4/5 cocked w/out any external safety all the time and is more likely to fire accidentally than a 1911 with the safety off. The 1911 can't be fired unless you squeeze the grip safety. There is a good test somewhere that illustrates both the Glock and 1911, I'll try to find the link and post it. Here's a link that discusses the 1911 safety: http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/tech/cockedandlocked.htm

Does that revolver come in a hammerless version? I have a .38 recessed hammer Taurus that I use for CC. I like the lack of a hammer because it can be shot from a coat pocket without the worry of the hammer snagging on the liner. Ive thought about getting a .357 revolver for a little more punch. |
They do have several hammerless versions, but I'm not sure if it's this exact model. You can always have your hammer "bobbed" if you find a revolver you like. | | | |

Another note about the 1911A1: it can't go off unless the trigger is fully pulled to the rear (since the 80 Series, that is). Colt installed a firing pin block that's activated by the trigger, and pushes up a small pin that allows the firing pin to go forward. I carried one locked and cocked for a couple of years, and felt completely safe with it.
