He looks a little stiff, and they need to crop out the dead space at the top.

Anything else I say might get me banned.

Shot with a 5D Mark II. So canon is the choice for the president :)

Well, Canon is the choice for Pete Souza.

Technically OK, but bland. But I find all posed portraits bland.

I've seen a lot better portraits from people on this site. I think he should have let Tracy Hicks take it :) That would have been interesting!

Totally agree... I hate the way his shoulder is chopped out... gives it a lopsided/uneven look.

Funny.. I read somewhere that only fashion and wedding photographers care to comment on "flat" lighting. The other segment of the population likes this look.

After thinking about it, I somewhat agreed. LOL

For the record, I am not a Obama supporter...but I find this pic just fine. It is what it is... I suppose we could put some fake angel wings on him or something and make his skin look like plastic... Sounds like a PS opportunity to me.

The image is available for download off the site. It would be interesting to see what people could come up with in post processing. I'm speaking of serious post processing, not trying to make him look like a devil or something (ala Jill Greenberg).

I personally don't like the crop either and I'd like to see him smile. Right now it looks a little like Alfred E. Newman. I'm sure Pete Souza had several good shots to pick from, as he is an excellent photographer, but the staff went with this one.
