Circuit City Liquidation Prices = FAIL - 01-18-2009, 04:46 PM

Went to see if they had any good deals. Photo stuff such as Memory cards and Batteries and the like were only 10% off. CDs and DVDs were 20% off. Furniture, cables, and mobile phone stuff was 30%off. Everything else in the store was supposed to be 10% off. Are these the same people that did the Linens and Things liquidation? I know they sure didnt seem to have any really good deals considering its ALL SALES FINAL.

Just because it's a liquidation sale doesn't mean they aren't going to try to make as much money as they can, it's not like they have any reason to give stuff away. Prices will go down over time on whatever doesn't sell.

They could pull it off if they don't follow Comp USA'a lead...they were still asking $399 for Blu-ray players a few days before their doors closed for good.

Pretty sure it's the same people that did CompUSA's liquidation too.

I've seen a lot of liquidation sales in alot of markets, and it is ALWAYS the same. Consumers think the prices will be lower than they actually are on the popular items. Then, when the pricies hit 30-70% off, all the good stuff (30%) is long gone and all they have left is stuff that was overpriced in the first place, or junk(70%) you wouldn't buy in the first place.

Not so funny, really. TD bought the Compusa name and felt it had value. (I read their press releases online). It selected some stores and had to make arrangements with the landlords (who didn't want a vacancy) to reopen in the same locations that were popular (and presumably profitable, go figure). They did not reopen the store here in Frisco (and since you could shoot a cannon inside and never hit a living sole, I could see why).

AHH I second that....it does not mean you can't find a good deal, you just have to look at the stuff everyone does not look at....when CompUSA was going under I bought a laptop with a cracked screen for $300.00 sent it to sony for repairs $450.00 so I spent $750 on a laptop that was selling for $1200 everywhere else....you just have to know what you are looking at.....I would wait a few weeks...most of the really good stuff was probably taken back by the vendors in order to resell to other chains....

the longer it takes the lower the prices will go, but by the time they get low enough to matter all the good things will be gone and you won't want what's left anyway.

They usually mark the prices up, before applying the savings. Sales like this are epic failures for the most part.

True, all. "Buyer be ware" is the best advice. If service is something you value most, run, don't walk, from Liquidation Sales. However, if you know what you are doing, you can catch a deal or two.

There's a reason they are going out of business...

They just built and moved into a brand new building here, it's maybe 4 months old, if that. Built another new one down in Port Arthur in the last 3 months. Who approved new stores after they had already filed bankruptcy and were headed down the path of no-returns?

Circuit City, has been heading down this path since the 1998....first with backing Divx....the company threw all there money at this...to fail...and the reason for there failure is that they challenged Sony....back when DVD's were still a new thing....then what I would say is the second and more prominent blow...was when they fired all there commission sales people...and went to a no-customer service attitude.....before that move I think they would have rebounded...but upper management decided that they could make a better profit if you take out the sales people.....companies in the future will use these mistakes to build better models...

My two cents...

Yeah, there's a store in Denton that's just a few months old too. What the hell?
