Washing machine repair - 01-18-2009, 07:57 PM

Does anyone know where a good place to get parts for a kenmore washing machine?

I have a broken motor coupler, and I have it removed, but I need to know where to get a new one.

I would not mind ordering online, but not really sure what online stores are reputable? My preference would be to pick up locally, but I am really not sure where to go to get this type of part.

Google has been great for finding the instructions, just not sure about where to pick up the part.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you.

After posting this, I found one local place that does repair, and has parts, so I will see if they answer the email, otherwise I will try your suggestion.

Just didn't want to go throwing my credit card out there to some random location. The referral was exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks

Not that it helps you much, but there is a place here in Tyler that seems to have every appliance part you'd ever need. AND...they have the knowledge that will get you out of trouble installing it every time. Gotta admit they've saved my bacon more than once. LOL!!!!

I've always used Sears, and in fact I replaced the motor in the dryer just this past week. The online diagrams and stuff are great. You can have the part shipped to you or pick it up locally.

If you need another resource, try Adam the Answerman at 214-553-5450. He is located in Garland just outside of Dallas. He knows everything and can get you the part used or new at the most unbelievable prices. Plus he will tell you how to repair it yourself.

How old is the machine? You might be better off driving through the "manufactured home communities" in your area to see if anybody has a parts machine in their yard.

You could also check for a FreeCycle group in your area that might have a similar parts machine or even a working one available for only the effort of hauling it off.

If it's anything near a standard size, a well-stocked hardware store might have one.

Slaton is as it always has been... It's running a good ten or fifteen years behind the rest of the world.

Built a new city building on the square two years ago and we just had a McDonalds open up. Not sure how long since you've been out here, but that's about the only big deal around here lately.

If it's anything near a standard size, a well-stocked hardware store might have one.

The machine is only 9 years old, and has only seen limited use (I am single, so only my clothes, etc...

I have found the part online, and I pulled the part off of the machine, and put it back together, so I know I can do it fairly easily, and the part shows to cost less than 20 dollars, so I am hoping I can find it here locally.

I am going to check Sears...

I didn't know that they stocked the repair parts for their stuff, as I thought they outsourced their repair stuff...

Thank you everyone for the replies!

Sears carries parts for EVERYTHING, including non-Sears stuff. For stoves, for example, you can get parts for O'Keefe and Merritt, JenAire, etc at Sears. They will definitely have Sears-branded parts in stock, some of the more unusual brands may take a day or 2 to get but they will get them faster than anyone can. Trust me. And since most appliance are really made by a short list of manufacturers, most have common parts. Sears washers and dryers are made by Whirlpool and/or Maytag. The online diagrams and parts lists are priceless. If you live far from a depot they will send it to you.

The closest repair depot to me here in Houston is a very dangerous place as they also carry refurbed tools.....with warranties! and they have all the accessories and "neat" stuff you can shake a stick at. If I worked there I would be broke.

Hope you have better luck than what we've been having with our 15-year-old Whirlpool. Finding the parts (agitator direction cogs, four little pieces of plastic that make the top part of the agitator twist) was easy, but my landlady wanted to go through Whirlpool. They had them, no problem. Ordered on the 29th of December, and they weren't getting to us until the 12th of January. Actually got them on the 9th. Three pieces, instead of the required four. Called them up; the guy said, "I'll second-day them" (this was Friday; they wouldn't be delivered until the following Wednesday). Didn't get them. Called again Friday (seems like the guy took all the info, but didn't place the order), so I'm supposed to get them this coming Wednesday, but I'm not holding my breath.

DING DING DING -- we have a winner!!!!

I went by sears in the mall today, and they told me I had to drive to their parts and service store. No big deal, not very far away from where I work. Called them... they had the part in stock.... I went out there, and there were stacks upon stacks of tools....

Evil place, but I got what I needed, and only what I needed and made it out with wallet intact.

We'll find out tonight when I get home from work if this will fix the problem (cross your fingers for me)

Ken, I used to, until they kept closing their parts stores near me. I have used First Source for years. Prices are generally better than Sears, and there is usually a repairman getting parts if you have a question.
