I just got back (tonight) from 3 days of skiing (actually snow boarding) with my sons. None of us have ever snow boarded before. I used to ski alot when I lived in CA but haven't been skiing for about 15 years, so...
I've decided that beginning snow boarding is not desiged for 44 year olds who need to lose some weight. I lasted 1 whole day (through lessons and playing in the snow) but the last wipe out of the day took me out of commision (I pulled something just above my knee - thankfully it wasn't my knee). My 12 and 14 year old sons took it up with no problems and really enjoyed it. They did really well for their first time out.
I've only been skiing in CA, NV and CO and this time we went to Angel Fire, New Mexico. A great place for beginner to intermediate skiers and snow boarders. Family friendly and the hotel is ski-in/ski-out. We stayed in a condo that was less than a block from the lodge, so it worked out great. If you haven't been there, I can recommend it.
These images were all taken with my Canon G9 on auto settings as I was just taking some snap shots, not setting up any shots.
A view of the hotel, condos and the valley from the lower mountain.

My 14 year old son (Max) on one of his first-day runs. (Sorry, I cut of part of the board.)
"Dad, let us go shred the slopes."
