A look at front pages of newspapers from around the country. Look how many used the "Pelican" case shot during the swearing in.

Very cool! Boy, if Chief Justice Roberts and President Obama hadn't stumbled through the oath they'd never have a shot of him smiling like that.

Good fortune for photographers!

Now that was a photographer with smarts. The only one to get an original point of view.

"The camera was a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with wireless transmitter attached and mounted inside a Pelican case customized by Kennedy. It was mounted on a camera plate that was screwed into the platform and then mounted on a Bogen arm. The camera was wired via Ethernet for transmission through a DSL line at Kennedy's position on the balustrade above and behind the platform. The camera was trigged via a hardwire to eliminate radio interference."

WOW! This guy did a LOT of work to get his shot. Good for him!

I think that what he did should be called "the Lorenzini approach".

Except for the Pelican case (which I'll begin work on soon - grin), I have all the equipment he used (including that exact floor mount and magic arm).

He had to get in front of and convince some very important people and it "looks like" he was the only one to try. Next inauguration there will be two dozen cameras there.

The guy got "THE" shot! - This guy is my new hero.

I am confused! Was it wireles or hardwired?

Which ever way he did it - Pretty smart!

Image transmission was wireless...but the shutter trigger was wired. Probably because pocket wizards can interfere with other wireless devices...probably a negotiated deal to be up there...*small* price to pay to get that shot....!

i got bored so i did a quick count on the original link you posted...

that photo made 115 front page appearances in one way or another. either original crop of various crops..

its an amazing accomplishment to get 1 front page color run much less 115 in one day!! wowzers.

im sure he got a nice little paycheck for those runs... yup.. add me to the list of people who now see him as my hero! :)

Well...depends on his contract with his home paper...
Unfortunately there's a plethora of photographers who have lowered their standards in favor of a staff position and a steady salary. Most give up all rights to the images...so the paper gets the extra cash. (or in some cases they give up rights for the first month after shooting the image(s)

I've been contracting for the Hou Chron for 8 or 9 years now just for that reason...
