High Speeb Internet Suggestion - 01-22-2009, 09:49 AM

We currently have a bundled T1(3mgb pipe) at the office for internet, phone and our servers, which we host at our location. We are looking at moving the office and wondered what alternatives you might suggest. I'm thinking we ought to move our servers to a hosting location and then just do someting like a single T-1 for internet and voice.
Curently we have 3 Dell servers in a rack and have clients that use our web application, and download a desktop application that we have.
We have 12 phone lines, and most of our calls are inbound, 800 support calls to us.
Currently located in Hurst, and looking to move a few miles N to the edge of Colleyville.
Suggestions about any or all of the above?

I'd switch to Uverse if it was an option. The lowest package they have is a 1.5 down, 1 up transfer rate - the HSIA 18, and it's 18 MB down, 2 up.

David.. my T1 that I used to have at the house was cheap (for a T1) .. it came from Waymark.net ... I discontinued it because we couldn't afford it any longer (and we weren't hosting here anymore, so it wasn't necessary)... but I was always pleased with their service. Tell them Jenies Technologies sent you.

Thanks Brad. We are paying around 1200 a month, but the bulk of that is the phone LD. I think just the bundled T's are about 700.00
I will give them a call and see what they say. U-Verse is showing as unavaliable.
Anyone else?

I'd recommend an OC-48 ;)

David,
I would definately look into moving your servers into a colo facility provided you can fit it into your budget. Since you have your own servers already, you aren't leasing or renting them so it should not be as expensive.
As for your office needs. T1's are pricey, and may be over kill depending on what your needs will be without the servers. I would look into seeing what providers are in your area, and once you find out, ask if they have business solutions. HISA providers who offer business class service usually have data packages more suited for that use. It can be more than residential service, but I know for a fact it will be cheaper than a T1. I have friends who have used their residential DSL and cable service for business use and that violated their terms of service. So proceed with caution in that regard.
If that is not an option, you can save money by scaling back to a fractional T1.
About your phone lines. Are they VoIP using the T1? Or do you have POTS lines feeding a PBX?

We currently are running a single T-1 for voice and internet with 10 users and our internet CRAWLS. It is barely faster than tethering on my Blackberry with Sprint and it's just not going to work for us. We are currently looking into separating our voice and internet service, keeping the T-1 for voice only and as a backup in case our primary internet service fails. Our best options appear to be either (a) AT&T with bundled T-1's (4.5MB is around $1000/month - according to the rep that is a discount price on a special offer they are running up to 9MB for about $2000/month - price break appears to be 6MB for about $1350), or (b) a fiber optic cable from Comcast that delivers 10MB for about $1395 (delivered through a company in Houston called Meriplex). Both are managed circuits. The fiber optic cable would take about 6 months to install and we would have T-1's (4.5MB) until that time. Not sure about the price for that temporary service. We are doing some checking to see about Comcast, as AT&T is well-known to us. Question is whether to pay more for what would appear to be more reliable service.

Verizon FIOS offers business service, but I'm not sure of the pricing. I know the FIOS speed is spectacular.
