It looks European - 01-22-2009, 10:50 PM

Where is the world is this city?

I just saw a commercial for the new Mercedes Benz 2010 GLK-Class SUV. I could care less about the car, BUT THE IMAGES OF THE CITY were UNBELIEVABLE! In one 30 second commercial there are some 20-30 of the most stunning images of what looks to be some European City.

There is one hint. At the end of the commercial the SUV is parked in front of some building with the following carved on the front of the building:
D * O * M
IN * HONOREM * B * SEGVNDIANI * M

Go see the commercial on this page: http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/#/vehi...K350W2&yr=2010
Click the middle Video Link on the bottom right of the page.

Surely someone on TPF knows this city.

From my 40 year old recollections of Germany, that could be any of several cities but somehow Darmstadt rings a bell...Ben

It is Latin which makes me think Italy as do the green shutter and building.
D * O * M stands for Deo Optimo Maximo (To God Best and Greatest). Honorem is Latin for Honor. B * SEGVNDIANI * M is most likely a name. It could even be spelled SEGUNDIANI as Latin used V for U.

Another Hint - 01-22-2009, 11:48 PM

Okay, I hope we are surrounding it.

I have been watching it again and in one scene there is a sign that says: BAR ITALIA
This leads me to think it is in Italy.

Keep looking.

It could just be some villa rustica up in the hills. You can tell it's not Rome, Naples, Venices, Naples, Genoa, Milan or Florence.

Surely someone has seen this town before. It looks very familiar to me but I can not put my finger on it.
