Just think if he had used a 1ds mark III or a D3X.

Did any of you zoom in anywhere on the photo? Zoom in on the top of the capital dome and find the SS and the cameras.
Look around elsewhere and find the other SS and probably snipers.

Amazing! Did you look on the stands across the way of all the photographers and news reporting teams? Some of those guys have 3-5 cameras set up on one tripod system! And the center stand? Lots of photographers had to lug some pretty decent equipment up that ladder and then there are the remotes in the front panel. How did they set those up?!?
It all makes that one camera at the base of the podium (which made 115 front pages) that much more impressive.
And of course, Dan Quayle seems to be the only person looking straight at this camera (grin).
Great image!!

Wonder how much time elapsed between the first and final shot of this pano?
Has anyone ever played with a gigapan?

I used to do panos about 12 years ago for Real Estate agents and I had a really cool tripod head specific for panos. It had interchangeable discs inside so I could control the amount of photos I needed for a pano and it would evenly space each photo for better stitching. If you like panos I would highly recommend one of these heads.
I still have part of the pano head but not the discs and I don't know if the company is still around. I used to make $300 for 5 interior home panos and then some company came along and was doing it for $50. I would stitch my panos from 10 to 20 pics depending on the room setup and they would come in with a fisheye and take 2 or 3 distorted photos. I bet this sounds familiar to some of you Pro photogs now that everyone has a DSLR and you can get prints at Walmart.
This photo gave me a little motivation so I may just have to set it up again.

The gigapan system looks pretty cool http://www.gigapansystems.com/ but with as easy as it is now a days in CS3, etc to stitch photo's, I don't know if a $300 head would be justifiable. It is still pretty darn slick, motorized and all!

I some times did 10 or more panos in a day in some very tight spaces so a $500 head that would speed up the process was no biggie plus the time it saved in post was well worth it. Funny but the head was nearly as much as my 2.1 mp camera.
