Video Camera Recommendations - 01-29-2009, 07:40 PM

Well, our video camera is down for the count. Anyone have any recommendations for a new one? Just something to capture family memories...not professional use.

I picked up a Sony SR11 recently and am really happy with it. It has the bigger sensor than the SR10 and is identical to the SR12 other than HSS size. The SR11 and SR12 also have some manual controls, which is nice if you start playing around more and want to learn more. It has popped up for $800 or so.

Check into some of the new flash memory based models by Canon. I would say that family memories are more important than just about anything else you would record, so I would definitely splurg on this purchase.

If you have any superfluous camera gear laying around, perhaps you can defay the cost a bit that way as well.

The Canon 5D MKII is not the video camera you are looking for!

I am happy woth my Canon HG20. It also has HD, manual controls and is priced right at $549.

I have one of these....shoots HD 720p....very sharp and also shoots decent pictures...

I have seen them in some of the Ritz and Wolf stores...for $350.00 I paid like $900.00 for mine two years ago...love it...the only problem is the battery life...but I found a pack of three on ebay for about 20.00 shipped and PP'd....can use up to an 8gig SD card which will give you about 4 hours on HD....the other thing it is so small it fits in your shirt or pants pocket....
