We've been invited to attend the graduation of one of the wife's various cousins at the Air Force Academy in May of this year. This young man is a good guy and we need a trip anyway so why not...
Has anyone attended one of these in the past and if so, what are the standard audience viewing conditions, ie: how far away is the spectator area from the field/graduation ceremony? Probable lens length needed to catch a few pics of the diploma passing, drills, and so on? Camera restrictions?
Any additional information would be much appreciated...

Just in case you weren't aware of this page. It doesn't completely answer your questions, but it does have phone numbers you might call to get more specific information. Have fun.

There's an interesting park near Colorodo Springs called 'Garden of the Gods' where you might get some good shots if you have time.
Mostly rock formations and mountain terrain.

Its a great place to visit. The campus is amazing. Garden of the g-ds is nice and VERY easy to walk around on, its basically all concrete paths.

My cousin graduated from the USAFA in 2001. I was just a little tyke then, but I took photos from the bleachers with a disposable camera. The ceremony took place in their football stadium, so that should give you a good general idea of what photo conditions will be like (I'm not sure if parents are allowed on the sidelines, but I'd imagine not).

Don't miss the Thunderbirds!
