Question Someone tell me that's fake - 01-30-2009, 02:09 PM

Found this in MM. Someone tell me that's fake and was done in PP. The way the flames are wrapping around the fabric makes me think its real. There is also some browning and the edges look like they are melting.

Yup that's real. I believe the model is Rebeckah Greyson too. If memory serves me right, it was done at a Strobist: Austin GTG sometime last year...June I think....

James (the photog) likes to set things on fire

I don't think it's fake. I've got some recent photos where people had hands with fire coming off them. Very cool!

Am I the only one who thinks that's insanely dangerous to get a ho-hum shot. Never mind if it was cool. Setting models on fire is just nuts. btw - the cool shots of people on fire - they arent actually on fire!

I dont see what the danger is in the 1st picture. As long as she keeps moving forward she will be ok. The 2nd one is wayyy to much fire and without a NOMEX suit you could get hurt, PP is cool for stuff like that.

I don't think it's real. I don't see a reflection of the flames in the water. You can see that part of the dress in the reflection but no flames. Am I wrong?

There are fabrics that have been recalled b/c they burn too fast. I remember thinking what does that mean? Some fabrics just burst into flames - she'd not have time to hit the water.

Can we really say a person is on fire too much or too little.

I think its interesting that we are all over it if consumers say they are real photogs, we're monkeys with cameras, etc. Photogs get seriously POed when someone thinks they can do our job and all the need is a good camera. Why would a photog ever think they were a pyrotechnic? All's they need is some good fire and a bucket of water.

nope, the first one is real. It was shot here in Austin at Dunvegan Keep at a strobist meetup that actually happened back in May of last year.

Another one

If it's real, it's stupid. Some people will do anything to "get the shot."
