What is your favorite jar salsa? - 02-01-2009, 11:24 PM

There is plenty of great salsa served all across Texas. It's one reason I love it here.

The problem is, I'm having trouble finding great salsa in a jar. Anyone have any favorites? I tend to prefer fresh tasting, rather than smoked salsa.

I know this is way of topic for this board, but what the heck...

Tejano Salsa is good: http://www.tejanosalsa.com/whereto.htm
One of my neighbors makes it (here in Houston).

In the San Antonio area there used to be a brand called "name" (forget what it was) Firehouse Salsa. That was good. I remember stocking up on it when I was in the area, but have not tried to find it in several years. It had a white label I think.

Pace also has a new line that are pretty good - has exotic flavors and in a "can" shaped jar instead of their normal hourglass shaped one.

I feel your pain and am still looking. What we do instead, when we feel the "need" for great salsa at home, is to make our own. Fresh is best! Throw everything in the food processor and enjoy. Sure, it's a pain, but good salsa is worth suffering for.

I picked up a jar of El Pinto New Mexico Salsa a while back. It's the "World's Best Tasting Salsa" (says so right on the label ). It comes in different flavors. Mine's Chipotle (Medium). Not bad at all for salsa out of a jar. Pace's Pico de Gallo is also pretty good, but I prefer pico de gallo fresh and crunchy.

Best,

Michael
