High Speed Internet - 02-03-2009, 04:05 PM

Does anyone know what other companies in Houston provide high speed internet comparable to Comcast? I tried looking a bit online but I don't know which ones are DSL or which are cable. I don't want to get a phone line.
Thanks,
Sus

It depends on where exactly you are.

If you don't want cable, you can get a data only line from your phone provider.

Look up ATT u-verse and see if it is available in your area.

If not, they can provider you with DSL.

Check out Suddenlink. It's fast internet than DSL. I have one and love it. You don't need phone line for it but just for cable. Good luck finding one!

your location plays a big part in this...what is your zip? who is your current phone service through?

AT&T Uverse!
Just switched over from Comcast because of how high my bill was going after their Feb 1 Rate increase.

I am saving 65/mo on Uverse with more programming and whole house DVR.

I'm glad to see this post.

I'm fixing to be moving in with my dad in Houston (Greenspoint area) and his apartment lease is up the end of April, when hopefully my mom will be moving down and they'll get something besides a 1 bedroom apartment. Anyway...

He has basic cable through...someone. No house phone, no internet. I told him I would pay for internet when I got there, but don't even begin to know where to start looking. I want something that either doesn't require a contract or can be moved to a new place when we/they/I get something else.

I've had U-Verse since Time Warner first announced they were switching to Cumcast.
Love it!
The internet is much faster (their highest tier) and the whole thing is costing me less but I get more channels.

My zip is 77021. I used to have Comcast but cut them off after the initial 6 months. It was costing me about $60 a month just for internet. I don't have a phone in the house. I just use me cell from Sprint. I think I might try the Cricket wireless broadband. I think it's $40 a month without contract. I'm not sure about the speed or connectivity quality. I'll try it out for a month and see how it works out.

Thanks for all the suggestions,
Sus

Be aware that some of the wireless people have set download limits.

You will have to go to the Att- U verse site and put in your address to check availability.

Verizon is not in the City of Houston.

They are not adding TV anytime soon.

But do you have a phone line into your house? If so, and you live in the right area, you can still get DSL/FioS/uVerse without paying for phone service.

I haven't had a home phone (nor do I want one) since 1999.
I had RoadRunner for like 10 years, switched to U-Verse about 3 months ago...still don't have or want a home phone.
