Can I get a bunny? - 02-03-2009, 04:23 PM

So... Easter is coming up, and I thought it'd be cool to get (short term) a rabbit for photos. I couldn't KEEP said rabbit... I have a beagle... and I think she is bred to hunt. Although looking at her watching a rerun of House M.D. while she's laying on her pillow in the living room... not so sure it'd be worth her effort.

So I said something to DH - could we get a bunny?

His response: Only if it comes from the freezer.

Immediately I got this photo in my head of a cute little kid sitting in their fancy Easter outfit, next to a slab of rabbit... with Mommy going, pet the cute rabbit.

Kid emotionally scared for life... seriously.

Which of us is psycho... my husband or me? *roflmao*

Maybe I should submit it to PETA for a commercial idea... roflmao...

Simon David in Dallas used to have fully dressed out fresh Lapin in their butcher shop. And unlike in France they don't leave the fur on one hind foot to prove you aren't buying 'roof rabbit.'

I say go for that shot.

Check around.. as I understand it, there are some breeders that will let you rent rabbits... you could have a special one or two day only shoot where you will have the rabbits in.. book your session now. One of the photographers from Fort Worth that spoke at SWPPA said she had great success with this... her name escapes me right now, but I'm sure someone can chime in with it.

I made a deal with the pet shop. I buy a cage, rabbit food, and the necessary accessories and three or four small bunnies for full price. A week or two later I bring back the now larger bunnies and he gives me half credit for next year. In other words I buy four rabbits @$10.00 each, feed water and tame them for a week or so, then he gives me $5.00 each credit towards next year.

Plan B would be to give them to clients after you are finished.

Something tells me there is an interesting story here, possibly with photos too.

Maybe that would make them stay in one spot for photos.

Donna,

Since you live in Katy, you have a Tractor Supply Store that sales Chicks, Ducks and Rabbits in the spring. The TSC Store is on I-10 and 1464 on the right, it is the exit right after the Katy Mills Mall exit coming from Houston.

check your liability policy regarding:

crazed rabbit bites toddler
crazed toddler bites rabbit

irreversible trauma to toddler caused by rabbit poop.

chaos caused by rabbits running amok in studio

photography of rabbits and children considered porn in courts eyes.

You know, the usual.

It's not the poop that's bad, it's the pee - seems to come a quart at a time... usually in someones lap.
