America's Solar Challenge back in July

This was a race from Plano, Texas to Alberta Canada for solar powered cars, plus one hydrogen car that tagged along, and ran for I believe 2 weeks on the road.

Before the race they had pre-qualifying test in Granbury Texas to determine if the individual cars were road worthy and mechanically sound to go onto to race. They were required to make a certain number of laps of a closed course to qualify, some at the static display at the begginning of my album did not qualify for the race.

It was a fun two day shoot running up to McAlester on the second day.

They do this race every couple years and some of the top finishers go to the cross continent race in Australia.

Most of the US teams were colleges or even junior colleges with Michigan having the full backing of their School of Engineering while the UT guys had to fight to even use the UT Longhorn Logo on their car!
