Photos of first cars... - 02-07-2009, 04:31 PM

I was reading the posts in another thread (ie, Old photos) and one of the posters (Paul Valentine) contributed a picture of him and his 56 Chevy. I thought that might be a fun thread to get going, so here it is...Please dig back into your old photos and let's see just what kind of wheels you had as a first car. I'll start off with my little red '65 Mustang...6-banger (only 200 CID I think), 3-speed (I learned how to drive it as I drove off the lot), no radio (I used a transistor radio laid up on the dash), and no A/C (unless you rolled the windows down and kept moving)...haha

Those were fun old days!

Paul...

I think you went back a little further than I had expected! haha That said, that is a great photo of you in the little kiddie car! And I remember the 'bullet nose' of the '54 Ford. My granddad had one, too.

Thanks! I remember all my dads friends wishing they still had their first cars, and told myself I'd never sell it. It sat for several years while my kids were little, but now it's better than ever!! I'm glad I stuck to my guns! This is a great thread. Can't wait to see more. I need to find a picture of it from high school to post.

Oh, and yes it's a '67!

Here is another very poor quality color slide scan of my 56 Chevy Ragtop shown in the other thread. This car was my 3rd set of wheels. This slide photo was taken in rural Dauphin County PA, about 1956.

Some nice first cars. Not sure I should post this, because it is kinda embarassing. I have been making up for this thing ever since:

Brand new 1993 Hyundai Scoupe with a whopping 93hp.

Keith...

Hey, if its your first car, it will never be forgotten. Even if you had a Yugo! There is just 'something' about a person's first car that opens the world up to you more when you are young.

At least you had the rear spoiler! haha

I just checked out the Hyundai Genesis and it is classy! They are really trying to make a real name for themselves with the Azera and the Genesis. The Japanese car builders may have some true competition now...and I am wanting to see the Genesis coupe when it debuts in the spring or fall.

Paul...

I found a link where a similar '56 is listing for almost $70k. Nice ride!

Jenny...

Surely that is not the original paint job? As I recall, the rear turn signal was also unique in the way it signalled a turn. My in-laws also had one. I don't see many of them on the road anymore.

There are some lucky bastards on this board.

This is my first car...or the model at least. I didn't take a pic of the actual car. We got it running after sitting in a field for 2 years. No a/c, paint (only red primer), am radio...and one of the engine mounts was busted, so when you turned left it made a really loud squealing sound. Meanwhile my Dad cruised around in a cherry refurbed 280Z...which he sold to my best friend instead of giving to me.

Shane...

I think I can truthfully surmise that when you took a girl out, they must have liked you for who YOU were...because it surely wasn't the car! <haha> What was the year, make and model?

I wouldn't know, no girls would go out with me. It's a 1978 dodge omni.
